Many of the programs and services outlined on this web
site also serve to prevent juvenile delinquent behavior among youth
in Monroe County. The YSB Youth Shelter provides a place for youth to
confront and alleviate crisis situations that could potentially lead
to delinquent activity if left unresolved. Project Safe Place provides a place
for youth to turn if they wish to avoid delinquent behavior or violent
situations. The Adult Basic Education Program offers youth who
have dropped out a means for obtaining their GED, thereby increasing their
chances to succeed and decreasing the likelihood of engaging in delinquent
behavior.
The Youth
Outreach Program offers educational alternatives for middle school
students who have been expelled from school. The mission of Youth Outreach
Program is to provide a purposeful and structured learning environment
where youth are encouraged to realize their potential. Students are
supported and challenged academically. The behavior/character education
classes, coupled with personal counseling, help students develop personal,
social, and citizenship skills. Planned activities are designed to aid
students in developing respect for self and others. The goal of Youth
Outreach is to enhance each student's academic, behavior, and
interpersonal skills so s/he can return to and succeed in a school
environment.
